TAXONOMY: Lepidoptera (order). Scientific name: Anomis flava. Other common names: "Soyabean looper".

DESCRIPTION: A common chewing pest that causes extensive foliar damage to soya and other beans.

PEST IDENTIFICATION: The caterpillars are typically green and move by extending the front of the body. Visit this link for more identification images. 

DETRIMENT TO CROPS: Larvae chew on the leaves of the crop leaving holes.

MONITORING REMARKS: We currently do not stock pheromone products specifically for semi looper.

ACTION THRESHOLD: Carry out insecticide spray at first sightings of significant foliar damage.

CONTROL REMARKS: Use Emmermectin Benzoate or Indoxicarb based products.
