NUTRIENT INPUT
Carry out a nutrient analysis prior to planting. Wheat typically requires a high phosphorus blend and moderate amounts of potassium/nitrogen at planting (Comp. D, Double D or Cereal blend). Nitrogen applications can be made as a topdressing up until flowering. Late nitrogen applications can increase the protein concentration of the grain which may be required according to the purchasing market.
Visit the Super fert website for more information about fertilizers that can be sourced in Zimbabwe.
Excessive nitrogen can increase the likelihood of lodging, however, growth regulators, if used correctly, can mitigate this risk.
Cropserve now stocks a comprehensive range of foliar fertilizers which can be used to rectify in-season nutrient deficiencies. Get in touch with a Cropserve agronomist for a foliar fertilizer spray programme.
Check the YARA website to identify crop nutrient deficiencies.
