A soil inhabiting pest that can damage crop roots

Description: Plant parasitic nematodes are very small, slender worms: typically about 5 - 100 µm thick, and 0.1 - 2.5 mm long. The body is often ornamented with ridges, rings, bristles, or other distinctive structures. They can do significant damage to crops by either feeding on the fine root hairs, feeding off the large roots or fully invading the roots system causing cysts.

Distribution on the plant: Confined to the roots of the plant. 

Lifecycle: Female produces eggs. 

Detriment to crops: Root damage, which can lead to stunting, wilting and chlorosis of the crop. 

Control general remarks: Crop rotations are important. Use nematicides routinely.
