ONION / HANYANISI

Zimbabwe onion agronomic / farming information. Find out how to control insect pests (including Thrips), suppress weeds and manage diseases.

NUTRIENT INFORMATION

Carry out a nutrient analysis prior to planting. Onions typically require high phosphorus and potassium and lower nitrogen blends at planting (Compound C, Vegetable blend or equivalent). High basal rates can be required and often broadcasted and mixed into the soil. It is best to apply to the soil at least one week prior to planting/transplanting) to avoid fertilizer toxicity. Calcium Nitrate applications can be made as a topdressing throughout the season. Apply routinely at low rates.

Visit the Super fert website for more information on granulated fertilizers available in Zimbabwe.

Cropserve now stock a comprehensive range of foliar fertilizers which can be used to rectify in-season nutrient deficiencies. Get in touch with a Cropserve agronomist for a foliar fertilizer spray programme.
